Overview

Linkedin is a Social Network designed specifically for the professional individuals. Basic Linkedin is free.  Linkedin can be used as a job search and recruitment but it is mainly used to get colleagues, past colleagues and potential clients to connect and to develop profession networking. There must be pre existing relationship in order to make a connection on linkedin.

Linkedin was founded in 2002 by Reid Hoffman, Allen Blu, Jean-Luc Vaillant, Eric Ly and Konstantin Guericke. Linkedin currently has over 300 million member in 200 countries representing 170 industries. Upon signing up to Linkedin, one must enter First and Last names, email, password,  job title, company and industry.

The linkedin profile page shows the members skills, education, employment history, news feed, who to follow, Linkedin suggests things you maybe interested in, etc.

Because Linkedin is professional networking, you won’t find members posting pictures or video of themselves on the beach or jumping carnival. It is used more for:

  • job search
  • recruitment
  • to research
  • to expand your network and connections
  • to build your credibility and professional connections 

So therefore it is important to create a the right profile to make the right connections to build your network.
